TeleCommons is partnering with GAIA on a planning study for the delivery of ICT services in rural areas of Thailand. ICTs are an important component of poverty reduction services. Thailand has one of the most aggressive and ambitious rural communications program in Asia, targeting all of the country's 60,000 villages for telecommunication service. This feasibility study intends to demonstrate that ICT services can be delivered to people in rural areas in a commercially sustainable manner. The study relies on TeleCommons' telecom planning tools such as the Rapid Market Appraisal to identify rural telecom demand (willingness and ability to pay), geographic distribution of demand, and deployment scenarios that are sensitive to cultural and gender issues.
